Meet the Chef...Scott Alan
Scott Alan is a vivacious chef who has a passion for cooking that is evident the moment you talk to him! He comes from a family of restauranteurs and grew up helping in the kitchen. His parents used to have competitions in the kitchen and the kids would be the judges to see which parent made the best chili! His father was from California and his mother from Oklahoma so he was exposed to a fusion of hearty "home style cooking" and "California fresh". Today this is reflected in his cooking style and the dishes he creates with the local fruits & vegetables of Costa Rica are fantastic!
At age 17 he was the kitchen manager of a fine dining restaurant and studied under a chef from the Culinary Institute of America. Scott moved to Costa Rica in 2001 and now runs two successful businesses in La Fortuna. Scott Alan's cooking philosophy is that if you have all fresh ingredients you're bound to come up with something delicious! His restaurant Lava Lounge is one of the most popular places in La Fortuna and has been open since 2005. He also runs a smaller cafe and sandwich shop called Gecko Gourmet which has been open since 2008. Scott Alan is the chef of choice in the La Fortuna and surrounding areas and not only is teaching cooking classes but has been catering events for years. NOW OPEN: The View Restaurant at the World Famous Toad Hall! Feel free to stop by either of the restaurants located in La Fortuna or Contact Chef Scott Alan at Scott@CostaRicaCooking.com visit one of his restaurants at: The View, Lava Lounge & Gecko Gourmet |
